4 tough decisions Brian Daboll must make during NY Giants camp

3. How much trust does Daboll have in Daniel Jones?
The most pivotal question Daboll faces this season will be: is Daniel Jones the franchise quarterback? Daboll may still have questions about whether Jones is the long-term solution to the franchises quarterback dilemma, but Jones is their quarterback this season, so Daboll needs to trust him to win football games.
It was evident in the last two seasons that Joe Judge and Jason Garrett did not trust putting the game in Jones’ hands. Jones threw deep ball passes (15 yards or more) around six percent of the time, the lowest mark in the league. Daboll, however, has a different philosophy which may solve the franchise’s quarterback dilemma, evident by what he said earlier this offseason.
“Yeah, look, we want to make sure we protect the ball,” Daboll said of Jones. “But again, you can’t go out there and play afraid. Be smart, not reckless, if you will. If he’s got a shot on the right read, let it go. There’s going to be things that happen in every game. The defense is going to make a good play, there might be a tipped ball. We’re going to have to do a good job of taking care of the football, but I want him to turn it loose.”
When given the chance, Jones has proved to be an accurate deep ball passer. With Daboll at the helm, Jones may get more opportunities to take shots, which could help prove that he is the future leader of the Giants franchise.
