Let us start by saying that Los Angeles Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald is an absolute monster. He’ll go down as one of the best defensive players NFL fans have ever seen. No one can argue that fact. With that said, is he the best defenseman of all time? He’s in the conversation, but the answer to that question is a hard no.

Donald can take honor in No. 2 down the road, but the top spot 100 percent belongs to NY Giants legend and Hall of Fame Lawrence Taylor. LT will never be forgotten for how dominant he was on the gridiron during his playing days, as he was a total force going up against offensive linemen. With people continuing to talk about Donald being the ‘goat,’ Taylor simply isn’t here for that nonsense.

NY Giants legend Lawrence Taylor is no question the defensive GOAT

No one will ever forget the 1986 campaign Taylor provided. That year, he not only helped the Giants win the Super Bowl, but he was also a First Team All-Pro, the Defensive Player of the Year, NFL MVP, a Pro Bowler and he was No. 1 in the league with his 20.5 sacks. That’s damn near perfection from Taylor.

For his career, Taylor, who spent 13 glorious seasons with the Giants, recorded 142 sacks. He was also a First Team All-Pro a head-turning eight times. He also captured the Lombardi Trophy twice with the G-Men. His resume speaks for itself. On offense, Tom Brady is the GOAT and no one is going to second guess that.

On the other side of the ball, though, the fact that Donald is being mentioned as better than Lawrence is absurd. Again, we think Donald is one of the best ever on D. He’s a freak of nature and Canton is awaiting him down the road. No one is trying to say otherwise here. It’s almost like the LeBron-Michael Jordan debate.

The two have changed the game in ways no one thought was possible. There’s always going to be an argument there too as who’s No. 1. In this case, we’re going with MJ and LT over LeBron and Donald. Taylor played the game like no one else during his era. He’s the GOAT for defense and that’s the end of this discussion. Sorry for all the Donald fans out there, but LT is above him.
