Hearts dropped all over the place leading up to training camp for the NY Giants, as it was announced that star outside linebacker Azeez Ojulari had been put on the reserve/non-football injury list. With this, Ojulari won’t be out a full go for the opening day of training camp on Wednesday for the G-Men.
Indeed, people started to panic when this update was dropped by the team. However, it’s nothing serious to worry about, per The Athletic’s Dan Duggan. Ojulari appears to have suffered his injury while training leading up to things in East Rutherford. With this, the team and training staff will ease into things with Ojulari and not rush him back.
NY Giants LB Azeez Ojulari dealing with a hamstring injury
The bad news is that Ojulari suffered this unfortunate injury leading up to camp. However, the positive here is that this happened in late July and not late August leading up to the season-opener against the Tennessee Titans. Now, Ojulari can rehab his injury and make sure he’s right for when the campaign does arrive.
The second-year ‘backer was fantastic last season for the Giants, really putting on a show early on in the year. In his first season in East Rutherford, Ojulari posted eight sacks, setting the new rookie record. Kayvon Thibodeaux is hoping to smash that mark, but it most certainly won’t be easy. Ojulari, who has added about 10 pounds of muscle this offseason, may not be able to suit up for Day 1 this week, but it looks like he won’t be sidelined for too long.
NY Giants WR Sterling Shepard among those added to PUP list
Elsewhere on the injury front, the Giants announced that veteran wideout Sterling Shepard has been placed on the PUP list as he continues to recovery from his Achilles injury. Shepard has been working around the clock in his rehab and the hope here is that he will also be taking the field vs. the Titans in Nashville.
Shepard was joined on the PUP list by offensive linemen Nick Gates and Matt Peart. Recently, the G-Men also revealed that fourth-round pick Daniel Bellinger had been put on the PUP list due to a hip injury. For Gates, he’s still working back from his gruesome leg injury from early on last campaign. A recent workout video has fans excited about his potential to don an NY jersey once more.
