3. Daniel Jones looked sharp out there
Perhaps one of the most important things spotted out on the field was the strong play of quarterback Jones. With this being a prove-it campaign for him, he surely started things off the right way. Jones recorded multiple touchdowns, including one hell of a hookup with second-year wideout Kadarius Toney (more on that below).
While there was a turnover or two for the Giants offense, that’s expected to be the case early on in camp, especially when the offense is learning a new system. Don’t forget that Toney, Kenny Golladay and others weren’t able to get in some early reps with Jones during minicamp due to injuries sidelining them.
The unit is without veteran Sterling Shepard too, as the wideout is still working his way back from a torn Achilles. Once Shepard is back donning a practice jersey – with that timeframe yet to be determined – it’s only going to help out Jones even more. The hope is that Sterling will be back sooner than later.
For Jones, he’s also playing calm which is great to see. He was asked about his contract situation and his uncertain NY future, and his response showcased just how relaxed he is about the situation. For the rest of camp, Jones is only going to focus on the things that he can control. The rest, as he said, will take care of itself.
