The last thing NY Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton could afford to start training camp was to look sloppy. On the first day of camp, Slayton worked with the second-team offense and didn’t make any noise. Unfortunately for the speedster, things only got worse for him during the second session.

With head man Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen undoubtedly looking closely on, Slayton had a day to forget in East Rutherford for the second practice. This was highlighted by a pair of drops. Because of this, Giants fans are only growing more and more frustrated with his play. On top of that, people are calling for him to either be cut or released.

NY Giants WR Darius Slayton may not be with the team much longer

Unfortunately for the Giants offense, it was a pretty poor day overall, but Slayton’s drops in the past make his performance on Thursday stand out a bit more. Slayton was able to redeem himself late in practice with a touchdown grab from Daniel Jones, but the fact of the matter is that the wideout’s future with the team is unclear.

The Giants appear incredibly high on Wan’Dale Robinson, as he’s seeing his work with the starters. Kenny Golladay and Kadarius Toney are also with the first-team unit. Keep in mind that veteran stud Sterling Shepard is also working his way back from his torn Achilles. Once Shepard is fully healthy, he’s going to get right back into the mix of things as well.

From our chair, general manager Joe Schoen needs to make a Slayton trade try and happen. It would be nice for the Giants to either get some draft capital in return, or a veteran defensive back to help out the young unit. A cornerback in particular would surely be something the fanbase would be excited about.

The table is getting pretty full for the Giants receivers and Slayton very well could end up being left without a seat. If he wants to lock down a spot on the 53-man roster, he’s going to need to elevate his play. The more drops he records is only going to make his chances of suiting up come Week 1 less likely.
