3 biggest NY Giants takeaways from Day 2 of training camp
By Reese Nasser
After a strong first day of training camp, the NY Giants looked to put in another strong performance on Day 2 over in East Rutherford. And with everything that’s been shown so far, Giants fans everywhere should be excited.
With a new front office and coaching staff leading this group, things look to finally be on the up for this franchise. Day 1 was full of big plays and a unit that looked vastly different than it did last season.
Now, let’s take a look at the three biggest takeaways from Day 2 of the Giants training camp:
3. Young Giants stood out
Both rookie wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson and third-year cornerback Darnay Holmes put on big performances for the second session. They both looked to build off of a solid first day of camp. After Day 2, it’s clear that they will both be central pieces to this offense and defense.
Robinson, who is entering his first year in the NFL after spending his collegiate seasons at both Kentucky and Nebraska, has been impressive for this team. After a big day to start camp, he put on a solid performance once again. Near the end of practice, he hauled in two crucial receptions.
Robinson could look to play a big role in his rookie season. With veteran wide receiver Sterling Shepard still recovering from his Achilles injury, there is still no timetable on his return. Robinson could step into that role as he proved to be a reliable pass catcher. In his final collegiate season, he pulled in 104 receptions for 1,334 yards.
Holmes also had a notable performance. After coming up with a big red zone interception on Day 1, he created another turnover on Thursday. Many believe that Holmes will occupy the starting nickel corner spot in this secondary. Consistent solid outings from him before the start of the season should give the Giants all the confidence they need in him.
