Right now with camps in full swing, every franchise is in a different position, some better than others. For the NY Giants, the 2022 team looks to start a new chapter in the historic franchise.

The new coaching staff and front office have put together the best roster they could, and in a few weeks, we’ll see if that roster has what it takes to be a competitive football team this season. The first campaign with a new head coach is always tricky. This does mean a new chance for players to make a name for themselves.

Having a successful 2022 season will rely on a variety of factors. One is who will step up and become leaders for the Giants in 2022. The team definitely already has leaders, but others need to take the leap and become someone his teammates can rely on and learn from. Next, we’ll take a look at four players who must become leaders for the New York Giants in 2022.

4. S Xavier McKinney

It’s not always a guarantee, but there has to be a high chance that an Alabama star football player will have success in the NFL. This proved true for safety Xavier McKinney in 2021. He led the teams with five interceptions, returning one of those for a touchdown against the Raiders in a 26-13 victory, Week 9.

McKinney will have a lot of pressure on him to perform as well as he did last season. New defensive coordinator Wink Martindale loves to blitz and keep opposing teams guessing. Adjusting to this new style of play will be a challenge that he’s ready for.

Expect to see McKinney lining up alongside Julian Love, going into his fourth professional season. There is a possibility that rookie Dane Belton could see some playing time at safety as well. Regardless, it will be on McKinney to step up and be the voice for this young group.
