With each passing season, Darius Slayton’s position as a starter loosens, and it appears like his role within the Giants has turned him into a depth option.

With each addition to the wide receiver room, Slayton has dropped down a spot. The highlights during camp so far on the offensive side of the ball are the performances and usage of receiver’s Toney and Robinson. Both appear to be the focal players in offensive coordinator Mike Kafka’s offense.

A lot of backfield handoffs have been installed in practices of late, which is a display of what the Giants offense will be looking like going forward. Utilizing Daboll and Kafka’s background with the Bills and the Chiefs will be huge. It doesn’t help Slayton’s case when he has had a lot of issues in the past with dropping pinpoint passes from Jones.

If Slayton can show the new coaching regime that he can be a downfield threat, with a reliable set of safe hands, and get separation, then that will lead to a much better place in this new offense if he is to remain with the Giants. There’s still the possibility he gets cut, so fans will want to keep a close eye on this.
