Alabama QB Bryce Young in the first round

Look, Daniel Jones has had three years to show the Giants that he is a franchise quarterback and he’s just not shown that ability. After having an encouraging rookie season, Jones has recorded rough campaigns in back-to-back years. The odds are very low that Jones magically puts it all together in his fourth season as the Giants quarterback, and even if he does, will the Giants feel that one good season deserves a long-term contract?

We firmly believe that in this scenario, the Giants will decide that Jones does not deserve another contract and select a quarterback in the 2023 first round. Here’s how we think things will play out next year: after the Texans and Falcons both surprisingly bypass quarterbacks with the first two picks, instead opting to select Alabama edge rusher Will Anderson Jr. and Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter respectively, the Lions will select QB CJ Stroud No. 3 overall. The Panthers will also bypass a quarterback, leading to the Giants going with an Alabama stud early on for the second draft in a row.

Bryce Young has been projected as a first-round pick ever since he was the top recruit in his recruiting class after a historic high school career at California powerhouse Mater Dei High School. After enrolling at Alabama and backing up Mac Jones in his freshman season, Young took the reigns a year ago and threw for 4,872 yards and 47 touchdowns while rushing for another three scores.

Young led Alabama to a crazy comeback win against Auburn to clinch a spot in the SEC Championship Game, then followed that up a week later by stunning Georgia. Young nearly led Alabama to two upsets over Georgia in one month, failing just short in the National Championship Game.  Young is likely to put up historic numbers once again this season and is arguably the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy – which he won this past winter.

While his 6-0, 194-pound frame is somewhat concerning, smaller quarterbacks like Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray have started to change the perception of what an NFL quarterback should look like. Young has all the tools to be great in the NFL. If he’s on the board for Schoen and Co. in the first round, how in the world could they not take him?
