When it comes to getting put on blast for rough play, NY Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is no stranger to things. With MetLife Stadium packed on Friday night for the Fan Fest scrimmage, Jones made some good throws during the action, but there was one that got away from him and people are surely not happy about it.

With Jones trying to hit star wideout Kenny Golladay near the sideline, the former No. 6 overall pick didn’t even come close. Matter of fact, the toss from Jones was downright embarrassing and people are letting him have it all over social media. This is tough to watch:

NY Giants QB Daniel Jones needs to have a strong preseason

That’s indeed a terrible throw from Jones. However, Golladay needs to get called out a bit here too. The playmaker is entering his second campaign with the G-Men and he himself is also in need of a strong 2022 season. On this play, Golladay does little to help his quarterback, as the route he ran was a total joke. Jones led him a bit, but Golladay’s showing here made things look even worse for Danny Dimes.

Both players were at fault here, but of course Jones is the one who’s getting the majority of the blame. The fourth-year signal-caller is probably used to people finding any reason to call him out. With Jones not living up to his first-round billing, countless Giants fans are already counting down the days for the 2023 NFL Draft to arrive for New York to select a long-term replacement.

Jones is hoping to lock down his spot as NY’s starting quarterback for the future with a strong ’22, but it’s up in the air if he’ll be able to get that job done or not. During camp, Jones has battled inconsistency. On one play he turns heads, but then on the next he finds a way to disappoint. This is something that can’t continue during the regular season.

With Tyrod Taylor now in East Rutherford, the Giants have a strong backup quarterback ready to take the field if Jones does struggle and doesn’t perform for Daboll and new offensive coordinator Mike Kafka. Jones has said he’s confident that he’ll be able to perform well this fall and winter, but the failed connection with Golladay featured above is only raising people’s doubts in him.
