Despite some bright moments at times, NY Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has had a very up and down training camp this summer.

Jones has battled inconsistency and it’s been tough to watch. Well, head coach Brian Daboll clearly wasn’t happy with what the fourth-year signal-caller was doing on Monday, as he sent in backup Tyrod Taylor for a play with the first-team unit in the middle of some Jones’ struggles.

While Taylor was only out there with the 1s for one play, Daboll did not like what he saw from Jones on a busted play and didn’t hesitate in yanking him. This was one of multiple lows for Danny Dimes at practice.

NY Giants QB Daniel Jones benched during rough day at of training camp

Per ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, Jones went 5-of-15 on the day throwing the ball, with two interceptions. Kadarius Toney didn’t help things out for his quarterback, recording two drops. All in all, it was a day to forget for the NY offense.

The offense has been too up-and-down to judge how they will perform come time for the regular season. Not to mention, the defense has looked fantastic, making it even more difficult to get a grasp of how things are going offensively for new offensive coordinator Mike Kafka.

Jones has certainly had some strong moments during camp like we said. However, he has had plenty of bad days thus far too and we’re not seeing enough growth out of him. With the preseason starting on Thursday, Jones needs to clean some things up before that showdown with the Patriots arrives. If Jones continues to have issues working the new offense, then we very well could end up seeing more of Taylor on the field too.

While this remains Jones’ offense, Taylor was brought to East Rutherford for a reason: to be a veteran presence in the quarterbacks room and to push Jones. Having said that, Daboll isn’t going to stay patient with Jones for too long. If the former No. 6 overall pick can’t get the job done, then more and more people will end up calling for Taylor to be given a shot to make some plays.
