The NY Giants have had an offseason full of surprises. Several players have shined throughout training camp. On the offensive side of the ball, many of the standouts have been young playmakers.

Rookie wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson has made more than a few notable plays and could be a big piece within this offense.  Second-year wide receiver Kadarius Toney looks to be on the verge of a breakout season. Rookie tight end Daniel Bellinger could be primed for the starting job.

The defense has also had a few standouts. Cornerback Darnay Holmes looks like he could be a legitimate starter. Rookie edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux may be destined to be a star from Day 1 on the defensive front. And safety Xavier McKinney looks to be the leader of this defense.

But, there have also been several players on both sides of the ball who haven’t generated much noise. These players haven’t necessarily put on bad, or good performances, but instead have just sort of been there.

Here are five players who have gone missing during camp

5. TE Jordan Akins

Veteran tight end Jordan Akins joined the Giants this offseason as a free agent. Before joining the Giants, Akins spent the first four seasons of his career with the Houston Texans. Akins has appeared in 58 career games. When on the field, he has recorded 114 receptions, 1,260 receiving yards, and three touchdowns. He has found much of his success by being a quality blocker.

Akins joined a Giants tight end room that had no clear number one at the position. Instead of taking that role, Akins has sort of fallen into the shuffle. Much like fellow veteran tight end Ricky Seals-Jones, Akins has been surpassed by the younger tight ends on the roster.

Bellinger is all but guaranteed to be the starter at the tight end position. Chris Myraick has been solid and has made several big plays. Rookie tight end Andre Miller was a rising star throughout training camp, but recently suffered a fractured forearm. His absence could lead to Akins finally stepping up into a bigger role.

If Akins hopes to turn heads, he will have to turn in some bigger performances. The preseason could be big for him as he will get to be on the field for an actual game.
