There were plenty of positives to take away from the NY Giants first preseason game of the summer, but the play of cornerback Aaron Robinson certainly wasn’t one of them. The second-year defensive back figured to be a lock for the CB2 job, with Adoree’ Jackson being the new leader of the group and James Bradberry now suiting up for Philadelphia.
Unfortunately for Robinson, he didn’t live up to the hype against New England, as the Pats targeted him early on and the 6-1, 193-pounder didn’t look strong at all. Robinson was targeted on the opening touchdown of the night and that wasn’t the only big play he allowed. All in all, it was a night to forget for him in Foxborough.
NY Giants need some help at CB as soon as possible
While Robinson is going to look to improve his game the rest of the preseason, Schoen needs to make a move soon before someone else beats him to the punch in landing the best available options.
As you’ve probably seen us mention a few times before, guys like Kevin King, Joe Haden, A.J. Bouye and more are still waiting for a phone call.
King, a former second-round pick of the Green Bay Packers, would make plenty of sense. Heck, any of those three guys we mentioned above would. The Giants wouldn’t have to break the bank to get them to town, as they could likely sign them to cheap one-year deals.
Perhaps the Giants could use wideout Darius Slayton as part of a trade package for a CB? Anything is on the table.
The depth at cornerback has been a question mark for quite some time and things only looked worse on Thursday night thanks to Robinson’s rough play. Jackson is expected to be a stud, there’s no doubt about that and rookie cornerback Cor’Dale Flott has a ton of potential. Robinson figures to be targeted quite a bit this year and the group is no question going to need some help. Schoen better start working overtime on finding some CB options. A new signing must happen soon.
