4. CB Darnay Holmes

Darnay Holmes’ performances in training camp has been great to watch. The cornerback room for the Giants entering the offseason was the biggest weakness on paper, with big question marks after the departure of James Bradberry for Philadelphia.

The slot cornerback battle was expected to be one of the must watch battles in training camp between Holmes and rookie Cor’Dale Flott. However, that battle has not even happened because Holmes so far has taken every first team rep, while Flott has played in the slot and on the outside on second and third team. Due to injury, Flott couldn’t suit up vs. the Patriots either.

Holmes kickstarted drills with two interceptions and a forced fumble during the first week of camp. One concern about the third-year DB is that he still has the tendency to hold receivers, but his grip on the starting slot cornerback position has been all his so far and it looks to remain that way.

With the 2020 fourth-rounder’s ability to create turnovers in a defense where defensive coordinator Don ‘Wink’ Martindale likes to blitz cornerbacks into the backfield, Holmes could get that kickstart he needs in a system which he looks like he thrives in, and could go onto be a big piece for the Giants secondary in 2022.
