4 players who impressed in NY Giants preseason game vs. Patriots
By Zach Wolpin
1. QB Tyrod Taylor
The player who had the best overall game for the Giants against New England was backup QB Tyrod Taylor. Having a solid 12-year NFL veteran as your backup is not a luxury that all teams have. Luckily, the Giants were able to sign Taylor in the offseason and he’s already proving he was well worth the pickup.
Taylor played the most out of the three Giants quarterbacks that saw action. Don’t forget that he was going to be the starting quarterback for the Chargers in 2020, before suffering a punctured lung that sidelined him for six games. He finished the game against New England 13-for-21 with 129 passing yards and one touchdown pass to Richie James, who also had a nice game himself. If things go south with Jones, Daboll knows he has Taylor to rely on as a backup.
It always feels good to win the game, even if it’s in the preseason that doesn’t count towards your record. Beavers, Jones, Johnson, and Taylor all played well for the Giants. New York’s next preseason test will be Sunday, Aug. 21, with the Cincinnati Bengals to come to town. We’ll see who ends up stepping up for NY then.
