Injuries are unavoidable in a contact-heavy sport like football. Each team deals with the same issue of trying to keep their roster healthy in the preseason, so that the squad is fully loaded for Week 1. The NY Giants have their second preseason game this Sunday vs. the Cincinnati Bengals in East Rutherford, N.J. As always, injuries will keep certain players from getting playing time. Brian Daboll wants to keep his squad as healthy as possible.

Coach Daboll has already said that the starters will begin the game for NY on Sunday, but how long they will stay in has not been determined yet. The starting offensive line only played one drive together last week, a unit on this team that needs to build as much chemistry as possible. Inadequate offensive line play has hurt the Giants in the past, and it’s certainly a position that general manager Joe Schoen tried to address in the offseason.

Next, we’ll look at four players who have some injury concerns leading up to the NY Giants second preseason game, with multiple lineman on the list.

4. LG Shane Lemieux

Being able to consistently put out the same five starting offensive linemen every game is something the Giants have not had in the past few seasons. One player who the team was relying on heavily was third-year pro Shane Lemieux. He only played one game for the Giants in 2021 after suffering a knee injury in Week 1 that kept him out the entire season. His rookie year in 2020, he played in 12 games, starting nine of them.

Lemieux went down in the first preseason game vs the New England Patriots. The Giants kept him out for precautionary measures as they didn’t want to lose him for another extended period of time. Clearly, this is not how NY wanted his season to begin. He was supposed to be one of the players on the offensive line that had chemistry with players we already had. The team will have to hope that this injury does not linger into the regular season.
