NY Giants fear becomes reality with LB Darrian Beavers’ ACL injury
It really feels like the NY Giants are cursed when it comes to injuries. While a lot of the focus following Sunday’s come-from-behind win over the Cincinnati Bengals has been on the health of outline linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux, don’t forget about the fact that fellow rookie ‘backer Darrian Beavers also went down with a knee injury.
Thibodeaux will only miss 3-4 weeks and his injury isn’t serious, but the same can’t be said for Beavers, the sixth-round pick out of the University of Cincinnati. On Monday afternoon, the G-Men confirmed that Beavers has suffered a torn ACL. Just like that, his 2022 campaign has officially come to a close.
NY Giants LB Darrian Beavers has torn his ACL
That’s just a gut punch right there for the Big Blue supporters. Despite being a late-round pick, Beavers had been impressing throughout the spring and summer. You could tell he was playing with a chip on his shoulder and he wanted to prove general manager Joe Schoen right for taking him in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Now, everyone is going to have to wait until the 2023 season to see Beavers in action. All in all, there’s just been a ton of bad luck for the G-Men rookies with these injuries. During the FanFest scrimmage earlier in the month, offensive lineman Marcus McKethan suffered a torn ACL and he’s lost for the year too. That was a big blow for the offensive line, as McKethan sure has a lot of promise.
On Sunday night vs. Cincinnati, Thibodeaux waived off a cart when it was brought out onto the field for him. He also told reporters he was feeling good as he was walking out of the stadium, which was obviously great to see and we now know he’ll only be out a short amount of time. When it comes to Beavers, however, you knew from the moment he went down that things were going to be trouble.
Beavers wasn’t expected to be a standout for this team in 2022, but he sure had plenty of potential in making a difference whenever his number was called. You never want to see someone go down with a season-ending injury like this, but things suck even more when it’s a hungry rookie who had been working his tail off.
