NY Giants projected 53-man roster after Week 2 of the preseason
By Zak Musso
Wide receivers
In: Kenny Golladay, Sterling Shepard, Kadarius Toney, Collin Johnson, Wan’Dale Robinson, Davis Sills, CJ Board
Out: Richie James, Darius Slayton, Alex Bachman, Keelan Doss, Marcus Kemp
IR: Robert Foster
This may be the toughest position to decide upon. Golladay, Toney, Robinson, Shepard, and Johnson are locked into the roster. The battle will be for last wide receiver spot or two. Board will grab a spot because of his kick return acumen, which he displayed with a long return during the win against Cincinnati (though he did also fumble). Sills will finally make the roster in 2022 after being a preseason standout for three straight years. Daboll sang his praises in a press conference Monday, stating that not only is he fighting for a roster spot, he is fighting for Week 1 playing time.
Slayton who we haven’t heard much from this camp, appears to be seeing his Giants career wind down. Clayton could be a cap casualty, as the Giants can save around $2.5 million by cutting him. The Giants could use that money to address more pressing positions of need.
One of the receivers I am projected to get cut, likely James, would make the roster if Shepard remains on the PUP list, but that seems unlikely because Shepard would have to miss the first four games if he is still on the list by the final roster cuts. Bachman has had a great camp and could find his way on the roster, but will likely end up on the practice squad.
Tight ends
In: Daniel Bellinger, Chris Myriack
Out: Andre Miller, Austin Allen, Jordan Akins, Ricky Seals-Jones
Both Bellinger and Myriack will make the roster as they are excellent blocking tight ends, but both have limitations in the passing game.
Miller the undrafted rookie out of Maine, was a camp star in the passing game before breaking his forearm, which will likely cost him a spot on the initial roster. Akins and Seals-Jones, two veterans, have failed to show the Giants they deserve a roster spot this offseason.
Offensive Line
In: Andrew Thomas, Evan Neal, Jon Felicano, Mark Glowinski, Shane Lemieux, Joshua Ezeudu, Ben Bredeson, Max Garcia, Devery Hamilton
Out: Jamil Douglass, Garrett McGhin, Will Holden, Roy Mbaeteka, Eric Smith, Nick Gates\Matt Peart (PUP List)
Injured Reserve-Marcus McKethan
Thomas, Neal, Feliciano, Glowinski, Lemieux, Ezeudu, and Bredeson are all going to be on the roster. Garcia and Hamilton get the last two spots as of now, as both have played very well in the preseason. Both players also have some versatility to play multiple positions, which is something that will definitely benefit the Giants.
This is a clearly a position that needs some additional help. Schoen will definitely be scouring the wavier wire next week to add offensive line depth. The other intriguing name here getting cut, Roy Mbaeteka, will find his way onto the practice squad as the Giants will continue to develop the tackle who has only played two football games in his life. Gates will likely remain on the PUP list this season after badly breaking his leg a season ago and Peart will likely be wavied shortly after he’s activated.
