The worst news possible has come in for the NY Giants and wide receiver Collin Johnson. At practice on Wednesday, Johnson had to be carted off the field after suffering what looked to be a serious injury. Now, we know that Johnson will be lost for the rest of the 2022 season, which is awful to see.

The Giants announced that Johnson, who has been spectacular during the summer, has suffered a torn Achilles. This was what the team was fearing and the further testing confirmed things. We don’t have to tell you that this is a major bummer and countless fans out there are heartbroken for Johnson.

NY Giants WR Collin Johnson is out for the year with a torn Achilles

Johnson really opened eyes with his showing against the New England Patriots in the preseason opener. In that game, Johnson led the team with seven receptions for 82 yards. With his strong play, head coach Brian Daboll said that both Johnson and David Sills had not only played their way onto the 53-man roster, but he expected them to push for key playing time as well.

Now, though, those plans have ended with Johnson suffering his Achilles injury. Big Blue supporters indeed are devastated for Johnson, as they were hoping to see him do big things this fall. They’ve been showing him plenty of love on social media.

Injuries like this are easily the worst part of the game. Johnson had been opening eyes with his play and the fanbase loved seeing him in action. He appeared in 12 games for the G-Men last season and was ready to make even more of a splash in 2022. Johnson will now have to wait until 2023 to make noise for this team.

The news of Sterling Shepard returning to practice – after suffering his torn Achilles last winter – was great for Daboll, but seeing Johnson go down like this has to be frustrating for him. Injuries continue to haunt this team. Johnson is the second player to receive news that he’ll be lost for the year in recent days, as Darrian Beavers suffered a torn ACL against the Bengals on Sunday night.
