1. Intriguing matchups in the trenches

There will be some epic battles in the trenches this week. Giants rookie offensive tackle Evan Neal will have his hands full with Jets defensive ends Carl Lawson and  Jermaine Johnson, as will left tackle Andrew Thomas.

In the interior of the Giants offensive line, free agent acquisitions Mark Glowinski and Jon Feliciano will get to battle against one of the best interior defensive lineman in football, Quinnen Williams. Conversely, the Jets strong interior offensive line of Alijah Vera-Tucker, Connor McGovern, and Laken Tomlinson will have to deal with the Giants defensive big boys Leonard Williams and Dexter Lawrence.

The Giants also have jobs up for grabs on the offensive and defensive lines, and these practices could go a long way in determining who receives them. Oshane Ximines and Quincy Roche will duke it out for an outside linebacker roster spot, while Jihad Ward, Elerson Smith and the winner of the Roche and Ximines battle will fight to see who wins the backup outside linebacker spot, a job where the winner may start the season opener if Thibodeaux is unable to play.

Both the Giants offensive and defensive lines can make strong statements to the NFL with strong play against the Jets’ highly regarded offensive and defensive lines.
