New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen is putting in long hours trying to get the roster down to 53 men, which of course is no easy task. With that, he’s going to make several decisions that the NY supporters aren’t going to be happy about. We know this includes the G-Men parting ways with preseason darling Alex Bachman.
On Tuesday morning, multiple reports revealed that Bachman, who led all NFL wideouts in receptions during the preseason, had indeed been cut by the Giants. People all over East Rutherford were hoping that Bachman would somehow sneak his ways onto the roster, but things just weren’t meant to be for him.
NY Giants also released UDFA RB Jashaun Corbin
Bachman made a monster splash earlier this month with his performance against the Cincinnati Bengals. In a 25-22 victory, Bachman posted 11 receptions for 122 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winner from third-string quarterback Davis Webb. After that showing, people were ready to give him the keys to the city.
With all the depth the Giants have at wide receiver, this really became a numbers game, which led to the team cutting C.J. Board too. The hope for the Giants is that Bachman will be able to land on the team’s practice squad, but after he played so well during the preseason – plus his potential on special teams – it’d be a surprise if he doesn’t end up with a new squad.
In addition to Bachman, folks weren’t too pleased with the news that running back Jashaun Corbin was also cut. Out of Florida State, Corbin signed with the Giants after not hearing his name called during the 2022 NFL Draft. Corbin made plenty of noise both during camp and preseason action. It wasn’t enough to lock in a spot, however.
This is unfortunately the time of the year where loads of players get unfortunate news. It’s not just the Giants and Schoen who are making these tough calls. Even more cuts will be on the way, as Schoen has to widdle things down to 53 here soon. Some more surprising news is sure to be on the way.
