4 mistakes Joe Schoen made with the initial NY Giants 53-man roster
1. Releasing Alex Bachman
After being one of the best receivers in the entire league during the preseason, Alex Bachman was surprisingly released by the NY Giants on Tuesday. This came as a surprise to many NY Giants fans, as most thought he was a lock to make the roster after his performances.
Throughout the preseason, Bachman caught a league-leading 19 passes for 166 yards and 2 TDs. Making play after play for the NY Giants, it is really surprising to see some of the other receivers who made the roster over him.
One receiver who interestingly enough made the roster over Bachman was David Sills. Don’t get us wrong, Sills is a good talent who will likely make some nice plays for the NY Giants this season. However, the level of play between Sills and Bachman this preseason wasn’t even close. Yes, Sills has more connections with members of the team, but Bachman was simply just better.
While Bachman is not the dynamic playmaker that Richie James is, we still would’ve liked to see Bachman be rewarded for his level of play. After seeing this move you really have to ask yourself, “what more does he have to do to make the team?”
