Brian Daboll leaves Week 1 status for Kadarius Toney totally up in the air
Will New York Giants wideout Kadarius Toney be able to rock for Week 1? That’s the question that people have been wondering for a little while now. While Toney was making plays early on this summer, he suffered an injury and hasn’t been able to showcase his stuff of late as much as people would have liked to see.
Regardless of that, Toney keeps grinding around the clock to make sure his body is fully ready and he’s even turning some heads at practice in East Rutherford. With the matchup against the Tennessee Titans a little over a week away, Toney is up against the clock.
Head man Brian Daboll admitted he’s unsure as to whether or not the former first-round pick will be ready, but he surely didn’t close that door.
NY Giants WR Kadarius Toney is hopeful he’ll play Week 1
Daboll was pretty vague in his response when asked if Toney will be good to go against the Titans, but it sure sounded like he’s optimistic the speedster can suit up. Toney looked pretty healthy at practice on Wednesday, but the important thing is to keep him that way. We’ve seen Toney try and go through drills over the past week, only to show some frustration with his injury.
The absolute last thing anyone wants to see this fall is for Toney to be rushed back and then suffer some sort of a serious issue that will put him on the Injured Reserve. Right now, the Giants are being patient with the wideout and that’s 100 percent the right move. He’s far too valuable for this offense.
Not only that, but quarterback Daniel Jones will also be looking at Toney quite a bit this year to come down with some big plays for him. We saw the potential Toney had last season. His issues in 2021 were injuries and inconsistent play. When Toney is on, though, goodness, he looks great.
We should find out soon if Toney will be able to help NY pull off an upset vs. the Titans. Keep your fingers crossed he’ll make the trip to Nashville and ball out.
