We are about a week away from the 2022 regular season getting started for the New York Giants and there’s going to be several guys ready to waste no time in making noise. It goes without saying, but running back Saquon Barkley is high up on that list after his rough showing in 2021.

Barkley, who is now fully recovered from his torn ACL suffered in 2020, has had to listen to haters blast him all offseason. However, new head coach Brian Daboll has stated from the start that he knows the former No. 2 overall pick has what it takes to be a monster out on the field for him. That’s why Barkley being named one of the 10 team captains was great to see.

NY Giants team captains officially announced this week

This is only going to give Barkley more confidence entering the new campaign. The past few years have been rough for the speedster, as things have only gone down for him following his impressive rookie season back in 2018. He earned Pro Bowl honors that year and had people buzzing over his intro to the NFC East. The good times didn’t last long.

Despite that, Barkley looks poised to have a big year for the G-Men in 2022. He’s joined by Cam Brown, Graham Gano, Daniel Jones, Casey Kreiter, Dexter Lawrence, Julian Love, Xavier McKinney, Andrew Thomas and Leonard Williams as the team captains for this campaign. That’s a loaded group and these 10 standouts will hope to get the Giants back to the postseason.

Jones is obviously going to receive a ton of attention early on this campaign, as he’s playing for his future with the team. The same can be said for Barkley. It’s up in the air if Joe Schoen will give him a new contract at the end of the year. This very well could be his final go at MetLife Stadium with the squad.

Fans are hoping that won’t be the case, though, as a strong performance could help Barkley return in 2023. Barkley has his swagger back and if the Giants have any chance of recording some big wins in ’22, they’ll need No. 26 to be at his absolute best. Something tells us Barkley will bring the fanbase plenty of happiness.
