4 ways the New York Giants can win the NFC East
By James Nolan
1. The NY Giants defense needs to step up
The Giants have flashy and exciting players on defense. The skill sets that some of the talented young players on the defensive side attain are extraordinary.
Kayvon Thibodeaux is also going to play this season. Although in preseason the knee injury had fans worried, he should be back around Week 2 at the latest. The 21-year-old pass-rusher has a chance to make an immediate impact once he suits up for the regular season.
Azeez Ojulari is entering Year 2, and he will be fully healthy soon as well. When this Giants defense is at full strength, opposing offenses are going to have issues. Last season Ojulari recorded eight sacks as a rookie. That number is only going to improve headed into his second season.
Dexter Lawrence and Leonard Williams are also two very strong defensive linemen. Lawrence has gotten better each season, and Williams is capable of being a problem for quarterbacks. As crazy as it sounds, the Giants pass-rush could be very dangerous in 2022.
New York’s secondary certainly has its question marks, but they also have a lot of potential. Xavier McKinney is becoming a fan favorite after he exploded onto the scene last season with five interceptions. He showed that he has the ability of guarding the opposing team’s number one receiver.
If the Giants defense stays healthy, then they should certainly help this team win lots of games in 2022. Combine the strong defense with a hopeful offense, and a relatively weak schedule, and the New York Giants might just capture the NFC East title.
