It’s been over 200 days since the NY Giants played a regular season football game. We have almost reached the big day for the team’s first matchup of the 2022 campaign, where Big Blue will be on the road for Week 1 to face Derrick Henry and the Tennessee Titans.
Each team has been grinding all offseason to get to this point, and neither wants to start the season with a loss. Next, we’ll look at four bold predictions for the NY Giants showdown with the Titans.
4. Kadarius Toney or Kenny Golladay score a TD
The Giants offense in 2021 was tough to watch more often than not, ranking 31st in the league for team total offense. Injuries and poor coaching played a factor in the offense looking putrid. Daniel Jones missed the last six games of the year, leaving the Giants offense in the hands of Mike Glennon and Jake Fromm, who combined lost the last six games of the season.
Almost every offensive group had injuries to some degree for the 2021 G-Men. Two receivers who missed time and were inconsistent last season were Kenny Golladay and Kadarius Toney.
Let’s begin with Toney. Big Blue had the No. 11 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft before they traded back with the Chicago Bears, and ultimately got Toney with the No. 20 pick in the first round. When healthy, Toney is a serious weapon in the Giants offense. The second-year pro did miss seven games last season, and was battling injuries throughout training camp and the preseason. Wednesday’s injury report did not have Toney listed as limited, so expect to see him put a spark in the Giants offense on Sunday.
Then there’s Golladay. It’s no secret that his first season as a Giant did not play out as either side imagined. Former GM Dave Gettleman gave Golladay a four-year $72 contract which some fans are not happy with. Especially since KG was unable to score a single touchdown for the team in 2021. Fourteen games without a touchdown as the team’s WR1 did not sit well with fans in the offseason. If Golladay can’t prove to Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll why he’s worth every penny of that $72 million contract, his time in NY may come to an end sooner than expected.
With that being said, the bold prediction is that either Golladay or Toney will score a touchdown for the Giants on Sunday. Maybe both will score? Though, that does seem like a little too much to ask.
