Watch Brian Daboll rip into Daniel Jones for awful INT but it no doubt motivated the QB
By Zak Musso
Can we look back on this as the moment that actually helped the New York Giants pull off their upset win over the Tennessee Titans? Times are changing for the better in New York. After Titans rookie wide receiver Kyle Phillips muffed a punt, gifting the Giants the ball inside the red zone, Daniel Jones threw one of the worst interceptions you’ll ever see and Brian Daboll let him hear it.
On this play, Jones sent Saquon Barkley out wide and than proceeded to stare right at him and throws the ball right to Titans star safety Amani Hooker. When Jones came back to the sideline, Giants coach Brian Daboll passionately ripped into him.
Daboll, just like every NY fan out there, was furious with Jones. This was a play that very well could have cost the Giants the game and the first-year head coach let his quarterback know that he had to play better the rest of the way.
After watching Joe Judge not publicly hold his players accountable the last two seasons, it is refreshing to see a Giants coach fire up one of the most important players on the roster. After making a potentially game-costing, bone-headed decision, a coach should let his player hear about it.
Brian Daboll fired up Daniel Jones to record the game-winning drive
Daboll was already incredibly popular among Giants fans, but him ripping Jones, who let’s just say is not very popular among Giants supporters at times, has likely made many fans of the Giants fall in love him. While we should not read too much into a heat of the moment reaction, it is clear that Daboll is not putting up with sloppy football.
If anything, though, you can make the argument that Daboll was able to inspire Jones by getting into his face a little bit. While no one outside of Jones and Daboll know exactly what was said, Daboll was jacked up while speaking to Jones following the pick.
Soon after, though, Jones went back out onto the gridiron and led the Giants right down the field, highlighted by his short touchdown pass to tight end Chris Myarick to cut the deficit to 20-19. After that, everyone expected the Giants to bring out Graham Gano to try and tie the game to force overtime.
Instead, Daboll decided to go for two and a shovel pass from Jones to Barkley put the G-Men up one. Thanks to Randy Bullock choking on his game-winning field-goal attempt, the Giants are now 1-0 for the first time since 2016. Jones deserves a lot of credit for making plays late and overcoming his terrible turnover. Daboll continues to show he’s the right man for the job as well.
