2. CB Darnay Holmes

Throughout training camp, cornerback Darnay Holmes seemed destined for stardom. He was the unheralded hero of the Giants’ defense during this time, and many were placing high expectations on him.

When the Giants lost James Bradberry, Logan Ryan, and Jabrill Peppers in free agency, many were concerned about the state of their secondary. The duo of Holmes and Aaron Robinson were going to skyrocket up the depth chart and into massive roles.

During the preseason, many were worried about Robinson. He struggled heavily and didn’t seem to be prepared for a starting role. But he played well in Week 1. Instead, it was Holmes who seemed to fold under the pressure.

In the fourth quarter, during the Titans’ final push down the field, Holmes was on the receiving end of several bad plays. In total, he was called for two penalties that allowed for the drive to continue and was on the receiving end of a reception that put the Titans in field goal territory.

With the Giants’ secondary as depleted as it is, Holmes is one of the few options. And he has shown how good he can be. If he can put the struggles of Week 1 behind him and put on a big performance in week two, this secondary could be in good hands.
