3 players the NY Giants should pursue in trade talks
Despite the New York Giants seeing some early success in the season, it is still quite obvious that there are some positions that need to be addressed. As much depth as the NY Giants have in some spots, they sure are lacking in others.
For example, the linebackers of the NY Giants got torched in coverage during their Week 1 victory against the Titans. While they did a good job against the run, they had no excuses to play as poorly as they did in the pass game.
If the NY Giants want a chance to keep up this success, they must look to improve at these depthless positions. With that being said, here are three players the NY Giants should pursue in trade talks:
3. CB Sidney Jones, Seattle Seahawks
Despite how well both Adoree’ Jackson and, surprisingly enough, Aaron Robinson played in Week 1 against the Titans, the rest of the secondary didn’t do so hot, especially Darnay Holmes, who flat out looked bad. He posted a PFF player grade of 42.3 while also nearly costing the NY Giants the game.
Regardless of how the Seahawks started the season, their team is not exactly built to succeed right now. Meaning they could look to move on from some of their veterans, especially those on one-year contracts.
This is a category that Sidney Jones falls into. Not only is Jones on a one-year, $3.56 million deal, but he also has some value as a pretty solid CB, something we know the NY Giants need. Acquiring Jones would likely be cheap, costing at most a fourth-round pick, even then, it is doubtful that he would cost that much.
Last season, Jones was very solid, posting a PFF player grade of 70.2 while only allowing 419 yards and two TDs all season on a 61% completion percentage.
While this may be nothing crazy, the experience and even just his solid level of play is enough for the NY Giants to want to trade for Jones. The only downside of a trade like this is Jones’ expiring contract. However, the NY Giants are set to have a ton of cap space next season, and I doubt re-signing him would cost the team too much.
A trade such as this really depends on if the NY Giants wish to enter win now mode. With the Cowboys losing Dak Prescott for the next two months or so, alongside the Giants seemingly easy schedule, we could potentially see the team enter said mode. It is all just a matter of time.
