3. Missed throws to Sterling Shepard

The Giants’ offense seems to be reliant on the occasional big play. And on Sunday, they had several that were mere inches from coming to fruition. But instead, several of these big throws ended up being incompletions. And two of them came when targeting wide receiver Sterling Shepard at the start of the fourth quarter.

In the first play of the quarter, Jones targeted Shepard on one of the only deep attempts of the game. The play ended with a defensive pass interference call on Panthers cornerback Jaycee Horn, but even without the interference, the throw may have not been a completion. The pass landed at the Panthers’ 45-yard line, with Shepard being nearly five yards behind.

Two plays later, Jones missed Shepard yet again on a play that could have resulted in a big gain. But after these two incompletions, Jones connected with the wide receiver on a massive 24-yard completion on third down. Not only did this keep the drive alive, but it ended with the Giants scoring three points.

The inconsistencies that come with Jones were on full display. And these are some of the issues that lead people to question his ability. A franchise quarterback should be able to make the big throw consistently. This is something that Jones has still struggled to do. Oh, and don’t forget the missed throw on third down to tight end Tanner Hudson. Jones short-armed the toss, which was rough to see.
