1. A missed opportunity on a sack

In the third quarter, Jones took yet another potentially avoidable sack. On the play, Burns yet again disrupted the pocket, causing Jones to have to move up. As he moved up, he ran right into defensive tackle Matt Ioannidis leading to yet another sack.

While the play is less to the fault of Jones, there was an opportunity to make a play. Hudson was crossing over the middle, in the path of Jones. With just one defender behind Hudson, an attempt to get him the ball could have been a possibility. But, by trying to force the ball, Jones could have potentially fumbled given how the pocket was moving.

In the future, the Giants would more than likely try to find a way for Jones to avoid these sacks. With a young offensive line, growing pains are expected, but Jones is still a solid athlete. He has the sort of skill set that could allow him to make plays consistently with his legs, leading to fewer sacks. All in all, though, he must play better moving forward. He’ll have the chance to silence some haters in Week 3 vs. Dallas.
