Playing their third straight home game this weekend are the NY Giants who will host the Chicago Bears. Both teams are 2-1 so far with Chicago recording wins against San Francisco and Houston and NY has wins vs. Tennessee and Carolina. The Giants most recent game was against the Cowboys on Monday Night Football, resulting in a 23-16 loss.
Don’t expect to see the offenses going back and forth scoring as this is the lowest over/under total this weekend at 39.5 points. Each side has struggled to protect their quarterback. Maybe we’ll see more sacks? That could be potentially good or bad for the Giants. Regardless, here are four reasons why the NY Giants can improve to 3-1 this weekend.
4. Offensive line protecting Jones more efficiently
As stated earlier, both teams have struggled to protect their quarterback and the passing game has been below average as well. The Giants and Bears both rank either last or second to last in pressures and sacks allowed during drop backs. It’s still early in the season and you’d like to think that both offensive lines could clean it up before season’s end.
Daniel Jones and Justin Fields were each sacked five times in their last game. Rookie tackle Evan Neal looked particularly bad for the Giants v.s the Cowboys, but he’s an extremely hard worker and takes his craft seriously. Luckily the Giants have an emerging star in third-year pro Andrew Thomas who is the NFL’s highest graded offensive lineman after three weeks. It doesn’t help that the Giants lost WR Sterling Shepard for the season with a torn ACL. He had the most experience playing with Jones out of anyone on the team.
Expect this to be a game where the defenses play a big factor. Both offensive lines struggles to protect their QBs could lead to some big plays. Look for Neal to learn from his mistakes in Week 3 and apply them to Sunday’s game vs. Chicago.
