4 NY Giants who must step up to slow down Lamar Jackson
By Zach Wolpin
Injuries have hit the NY Giants hard in recent weeks and somehow the team still has a 4-1 record. This coaching staff has the team well prepared and first year head coach Brian Daboll is getting praise from legendary NY Giants head coach Bill Parcells. Daboll is not letting the pressure get to him and he’s proven that to be true through five weeks. Next up for the Giants is a Week 6 matchup with the Baltimore Ravens.
It’s revenge week for Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale. He was the Ravens DC from 2018-2021 and he’ll hopefully have some inside information that could help Big Blue. The last time these two played was in 2020 where the Ravens won at home, 27-13.
However, this is a different Giants team than the one in 2020. Martindale will have the pleasure of trying to contain someone he knows very well in Lamar Jackson. It won’t be an easy task, but here are four NY Giants who must step up to slow down Jackson.
4. DL Dexter Lawrence
Giants fourth-year pro Dexter Lawrence is a player that the team can rely on every week. He was voted captain by his teammates this season and Lawrence has been huge for NY while Leonard Williams has been out with a knee injury. Even Aaron Rodgers had to compliment Dexter on his outstanding game.
"“They got some studs on the inside. 97 is a premier player and probably needs to get some more recognition for the ability he has. Talking with out interior three, they think he’s one of the top guys in the league for sure.” – Aaron Rodgers speaking about Dexter Lawrence"
Sunday’s game vs. the Ravens will be the toughest one yet for the Giants defense. Jackson is a true dual-threat QB who can beat you in any way he likes. On Wednesday, the Giants had seven players who did not practice and had nine players who were limited.
The team is certainly beat up on offense and defense. That is why Big Blue will be relying on players like Lawrence to have a big game and give NY the best chance to win. The fact the Williams is expected to be ready to go also helps things out.
