The New York Giants can’t stop winning. Once again pulling off an upset victory, the G-Men took down the Jacksonville Jaguars 23-17 in Week 7. While people are going to be celebrating this one for the rest of the day, we simply can’t forget how poorly the wide receivers played for the Giants. Straight up, they nearly cost this team the game.
In total, the Giants pass-catchers recorded five drops against Jacksonville. The drop by Marcus Johnson in the second half on fourth down was downright embarrassing and Daniel Jones was furious. It’s the most livid we’ve seen the fourth-year QB. With the Giants at 6-1, they’re in need of WR help. Will Joe Schoen make something happen before the Nov. 1 deadline?
NY Giants must bring in WR help if they want to make noise in the postseason
In the win, Jones completed 19-of-30 pass attempts (five drops) for 202 yards and a touchdown, while adding 107 yards on the ground and another score. This was a primetime showing from the former No. 6 overall pick and he made plays late when his team was depending on him.
At the end of the day, though, can we really expect NY to compete with teams like the Eagles, Cowboys and others late in the season with a WR room that’s made up mostly of practice-squad caliber guys? Not a chance. Brian Daboll keeps making history with the Giants, becoming the first coach since 1929 to start his head coaching career 6-1 or better.
That’s an impressive stat and his staff as a whole has been such a wonderful addition for everyone in East Rutherford. It feels like the Giants could be a player or two on offense away from being taken seriously moving forward.
Saquon Barkley needs some help, and with a banged-up offensive line, things could get more complicated for the offense. We can only hope Schoen sees the potential in this team for 2022 and brings in a speedster to make plays for Danny Dimes and Co.
