2. Defense stands tall to get turnover on downs in the fourth quarter

Martindale’s defense is made for big plays in the fourth quarter when the teams needs it most. Jacksonville started a drive with under two minutes left in the third quarter. They drove the ball into Giants territory and were looking to go up two scores. Martindale’s men had other ideas, though.

With 11:30 left in this contest, the Jaguars were facing 4th-and-1 from the NY 20 yard line. Lawrence tried a QB sneak to move the chains, but the NY defensive front was simply too strong and they dominated the Jacksonville offensive line in this battle. Lawrence was stopped short and NY got the ball back.

Jones and the offense drove the ball all the way to the Jags one yard line following the big stop. A QB sneak by Jones and the extra-point make by Gano gave the Giants a 20-17 lead with 5:31 in the fourth. The Giants defense stood true after the touchdown and forced a three and out from the Jags offense.
