Kadarius Toney has played his last down for the NY Giants. This was not something a lot of fans were expecting to say at this point in the campaign, especially after nothing was done in the offseason. It felt like Toney was primed to have a big year for Big Blue in 2022.

Then, the NFL world was turned upside down for a brief moment, with the Giants trading the former first-round pick to the Kansas City Chiefs. Just like that, all the hope, all the promise, and all the excitement surrounding a potential Toney future in East Rutherford came to a close.

Chiefs fans are loving this, as Kansas City is in serious need of some help on the outside if they even want to think about taking down Josh Allen in the Buffalo Bills for the third consecutive season in the playoffs. Superstar signal-caller Patrick Mahomes is now hyped for his offense, with him posting a tweet to share how he’s feeling about things:

Patrick Mahomes is fired up over the Chiefs-Giants trade for Kadarius Toney

Mahomes knows just how good Toney can be when he’s at full health. That was his main issue for the Giants. Toney had high expectations during his rookie season, but the injuries kept piling up. Then in 2022, Toney has only been able to play in two games due to a hamstring issue. With the drama from last year still lingering, it felt like something was going on behind closed doors too.

Head coach Brian Daboll decided to stick with Toney and he’s had nothing but good things to say about him since he took over for this team. Daboll’s reaction to the trade makes it seem like he’s ready for the squad to focus on its future without Toney inside of the locker room.

Daboll’s focus is now on trying to take down the Seattle Seahawks in Week 8 over at Lumen Field. After posting 39 receptions for 420 yards and no touchdowns last fall, Toney finishes ’22 with NY with two receptions for 0 yards and once again, no scores.

From a numbers standpoint, this team isn’t going to miss much. However, when looking at his potential, Giants supporters will be left wondering what could have been for Mr. Toney in the NFC East.
