3. Rookies keep making Joe Schoen look smart

In a rebuilding year for the G-Men, it has been fantastic to see the early development of first-year players. This rookie class has made plenty of noise and things are only going to get better for the future.

Injuries have prevented things from being perfect, but before they went down, both right tackle Evan Neal and tight end Daniel Bellinger were a lot of fun to watch. Neal has gotten better with each game following his nightmare in Week 3 vs. the Dallas Cowboys. He’s dealing with a knee injury, but should be back at some point this month.

Bellinger suffered a fractured eye socket, and will be out for 2-6 weeks. Outside of those two, Wan’Dale Robinson, Dane Belton and Micah McFadden have made their presence felt in a big way too. In the loss to Seattle, Belton could have had a pick-six had Jihad Ward not batted a Geno Smith pass down, and McFadden posted the first sack of his career.

Let’s not forget about No. 5 overall pick Kayvon Thibodeaux either. His strip-sack of Jackson in the win over Baltimore was a thing of beauty. He may be falling short of his prediction for sacks this campaign, but Thibodeaux is a force in the trenches.
