Joe Schoen leaves the door open for NY Giants to sign Odell Beckham Jr.
Odell Beckham Jr. was one of the greatest wide receivers in NY Giants history, making plays left and right for this organization. Things didn’t end amicably, however, with him being traded to the Cleveland Browns by former GM Dave Gettleman. Beckham was often outed as a distraction by the NY media and things ended sour.
Beckham, who was no stranger to headlines, was a dominant player and he gave opposing defensive backs countless headaches. OBJ had 390 catches, 44 touchdown catches and 5,476 yards receiving for Big Blue.
With Beckham being a free agent, could a reunion be in the cards? OBJ has hinted multiple times on social media that he’d be up to return to MetLife Stadium. While speaking to the press on Tuesday, Joe Schoen was asked about potentially signing Beckham to a new deal. His answer sure has a lot of people talking:
Joe Schoen signing Odell Beckjam Jr. would electrify the Giants fanbase
The NY Giants have struggled mightily at the wide receiver position this year and adding someone like Beckham would sure help things out. Quarterback Daniel Jones is trying to prove he’s the franchise quarterback and he’s doing his best with one of the weaker wide receiver groups in the league.
It would be huge for the whole team if Beckham joined the locker room, as Big Blue sits at a surprising 6-2 and look primed to make the playoffs. It would be great to bring Beckham back to this Jones and Saquon Barkley-led offense.
The NFL trade deadline came and went and the only changes NY made to the wide receiver room was trading Kadarius Toney. They didn’t make any additions as the prices seemed way to high. The need for a wide receiver still is strong. The best available free agent who can help is Beckham Jr.
The door is at least open for the possibility of an OBJ signing and it could make a lot of sense for both parties. Beckham has unfinished business in the city. The fans would love to have him back and it would be a good football move as well. It’s still probably a long shot, but some traction exists. We’ll see if Schoen ends up making a surprise move here in the near future.
