3 WRs the NY Giants could target with the Chiefs’ third-round pick

The New York Giants surprisingly opted to not make a move at the trade deadline. It was widely believed that the Giants could have been in the market for a wide receiver, with names like Jerry Jeudy, Brandin Cooks, Chase Claypool and more popping up.

Following the decision to send Kadarius Toney to the Kansas City Chiefs, the Giants wide receiver room is currently barren. Darius Slayton and Wan’Dale Robinson are set to lead the group for the foreseeable future, as Sterling Shepard is out for the season and Kenny Golladay is still working to get back onto the field.

The Giants decision to not add a wide receiver at the deadline may be due to the overall talent in the upcoming draft class. In the first round, this team could have their pick of several game-changing talents. But, there will also be several players available in the later rounds.

Due to trading Toney, the Giants currently have nine picks in the 2023 NFL draft. This includes two third-round picks, as they were able to haul in a third-rounder from KC as part of the Toney deal. Here’s a look at three under-the-radar wideouts Joe Schoen could be eyeing for one of those third-round selections.

3. Virginia WR Dontayvion Wicks

Virginia’s Dontayvion Wicks could be an intriguing option for a team looking for a strong and reliable pass-catching option. Wicks burst onto the scene in 2021, regularly making big plays down the field. In 12 games, he recorded 57 receptions for 1,203 receiving yards and nine total touchdowns. Along with this, he averaged 21.1 yards per reception.

Through the first eight games of this season, while he hasn’t put up the big numbers that he did the year prior, Wicks has remained solid. He has recorded 30 receptions for 430 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

With Virginia currently sitting at 3-5, defenses have begun to lock in on Wicks, attempting to slow him down. But even so, he has remained a threat to make big plays.

Wicks has the ability to make his way down the field with ease and can help give any secondary problems. Along with this, he has consistent hands and is quicker than he seems. While he won’t outrun everyone he lines up against, he can use his strength and overall athleticism to win most battles.
