3 reasons the NY Giants can’t take the Houston Texans lightly
By Reese Nasser
1. Dameon Pierce
The Texans are a team led by their youth at the moment. No player has had as much of an impact as rookie running back Dameon Pierce.
Pierce, who the Texans selected in the fourth round of the draft, has been a legitimate superstar on this offense. Their entire game plan is based around him, and they go as far as he can take them each week.
Through the first eight games of the season, Pierce has seen his role grow at a massive rate. He has rushed for 678 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 148 carries. His 678 rushing yards are the sixth most in the NFL.
Pierce is heading into this matchup against the Giants coming off the best rushing performance of his short career. He rushed for 139 rushing yards against an elite Philadelphia Eagles defense.
If Pierce can play at his usual level, the Giants defense will have their hands full all day. He is a constant threat for a big play and is willing to run over anyone who gets in his way.
In recent weeks, the Giants have had their fair share of issues against opposing running backs. In Week 7, Travis Etienne of the Jacksonville Jaguars recorded 114 rushing yards and one touchdown. The following week, Kenneth Walker of the Seattle Seahawks recorded just 51 rushing yards, but still scored two touchdowns.
For both the Giants and the Texans, this game could come down to which running back can win the day. Pierce against Saquon Barkley could be the matchup of Week 10 and fans can’t wait to see how both of these guys perform.
