3. The rushing attack

The Giants have the league’s sixth-best rushing attack, averaging 147.6 yards per game. The rushing attack really boils down to two dudes, Danny Wheels and Barkley. We talked about Jones’ improvement as a passer earlier, but his legs have been a massive weapon this season.

Jones, recently referred to by Barkley as Vanilla Vick, has rushed 95 times for 548 yards and five touchdowns, all career highs. Vanilla Vick’s 548 yards on the ground are the most by a quarterback in a single season in Giants history. His wheels have become the perfect complement to Barkley, who has had a huge bounce-back season.

Barkley is fourth in the NFL in rushing this season with 1,083 rushing yards, and has become a workhorse in the Giants backfield. Barkley has carried the ball over 20 times in six games this season, and carried the ball 30+ times in two games, including an insane 35 carries against Houston.

In sive of the seven games that Barkley has received 20 carries, the Giants have come out victorious, so the recipe for wins is pretty simple. The Giants running game was the main reason they started 6-1, but they have gotten away from it too much lately. The Giants need to pound the rock early and often, and if they do, we will see this team playing beyond Week 18.
