4 bold predictions for the NY Giants vs. Vikings Christmas Eve showdown
By Reese Nasser
2. Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley dominate on the ground
The duo of Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley has been one of the more underrated ones in the NFL this season. Without both of them playing how they have, this team wouldn’t have the record that they do. Jones has made improvements through the air this season, throwing for 2,694 passing yards, 12 touchdowns, and just four interceptions.
On the ground, Jones has seen the most usage of his NFL career. He has run the ball a career-high 105 times, totaling 583 rushing yards and an additional five touchdowns while averaging 5.6 yards per carry.
Next to Jones, Barkley has fully returned to form. Following two injury-riddled seasons, he is playing some of the best football of his career. While appearing in all 14 games, he has carried the ball a career-high 269 times. This has led to him rushing for 1,170 yards and nine touchdowns.
With Jones and Barkley both being able to effectively carry the ball, they can give even the best defense problems. With the ball in either of their hands, they can make defenses work. On the ground, the Vikings have sometimes struggled against the run. On the season, they have allowed 1,686 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns.
If the Giants can establish the run early, that could be the key to them winning the game. Not only would it open up the offense, but it would make the Vikings defense work. With Jones and Barkley carrying the ball, this Vikings defense could be in for a challenge.
