Daniel Jones has cemented his future with the NY Giants
The Daniel Jones era has often been unclear in New York, but that’s no longer the case. Before the season, the NY Giants declined Jones’ fifth-year option and told him to prove himself. He did just that despite all the pressure.
The Giants have their quarterback for next year and for the future and that’s Jones. The leader of the team as said by many players, Jones has been great this season. Before Sunday’s game even happened, Ian Rapoport reported that the Giants want both Jones and Saquon Barkley back next season. There’s no way Joe Schoen can let either of these guys play elsewhere.
NY Giants QB Daniel Jones deserves a new deal
In Week 17, Jones helped the NY Giants punch their ticket to the postseason for the first time since 2016. The Giants routed the Colts 38-10. Jones had one of the best games of his career. Jones went 19-of-24 for 177 yards and two touchdown passes. He rushed 11 times for 91 yards and two more scores. It has been a tremendous season for Jones, but it’s not just his ability or his statistics that make him so special. It’s the way he leads and the way his teammates respond to him.
The Giants had so many questions coming into this season and the wide receiver core ended up being Darius Slayton, Richie James and Isaiah Hodgins. On paper it looks like one of the worst cores in football, but these guys produced, especially late in the season. Jones got a lot out of these receivers and grew to have a strong connection with them. They all made a case to stick around next year even after the Giants add a big time weapon or two in the coming months.
The Giants are Iocked into a Wild Card playoff matchup in two weeks. In a contract year on a team expected to finish last in rebuild mode, Jones led the NY Giants to the postseason. Jones, who has 22 touchdowns and five INTs on the year, has earned a multi-year contract from Schoen and he has also earned the trust of head coach Brian Daboll. The fourth-year QB has silenced his haters in the best way possible. We need to see him at MetLife next fall.
