There are only two head coaching gigs still up for grabs, with the Indianapolis Colts and Arizona Cardinals still waiting to decide who will lead their teams. Unfortunately for NY Giants head coach Brian Daboll, two of his top coordinators in Wink Martindale and Mike Kafka are both in the running for those jobs.

As things stand, it feels like Martindale is the more likely of the two to be given an offer and potentially leave East Rutherford this offseason. According to NY Giants insider Pat Leonard, Martindale is ‘considered one of the frontrunners’ to be hired by Indianapolis.

NY Giants DC Wink Martindale is a serious candidate for the Colts job

What Martindale was able to do with the Giants this past season can’t be forgotten. Despite all of the injuries suffered at basically each position, Martindale brought out the best in the guys who were able to take the field for him. We saw plenty of development in the young talent this year and Martindale is a big reason to be thankful for that.

With all of his coaching experience, including winning a Super Bowl with the Ravens, Martindale is a football guy through and through. With that said, he’s always wanted to have his shot of becoming a head coach. The Colts and owner Jim Irsay could be the ones to finally give him his chance to run his own show.

There’s been reports come up that the Giants could end up giving Martindale a significant raise to try and keep him happy with Big Blue, but the lure of a head coaching opportunity may be too much for him to turn down.

The Colts are inching closer and closer to making their decision, but Martindale, Raheem Morris, Shane Steichen and others appear to still be in the hunt. If Martindale does leave the Giants, it’s going to sting a bit, but people have full trust in Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen to bring in someone who can fill his enormous shoes.
