New Mock Draft has NY Giants taking a stud OL instead of a WR1 for Daniel Jones
We’ve only seen a handful of mock drafts which haven’t had the NY Giants take a star wide receiver in the first round and we’ve sure got mixed feelings about it. There’s no question that general manager Joe Schoen needs to bring in some help for Daniel Jones and this offense as a whole.
On top of that, though, the interior offensive line also needs a bit of a makeover, as does the linebackers room. Giants fans would love to see someone like Jordan Addison or Quentin Johnston make their way to East Rutherford to help open up the field.
Per The Athletic’s Nick Baumgardner, though, he thinks Schoen will go with a stud out of Florida: offensive guard O’Cyrus Torrence.
Florida offensive guard O’Cyrus Torrence could be the NY Giants first-round pick
"“Receiver remains a bigger need for the Giants, and it’s not impossible that they walk out of pick 25 with Addison or Johnston,” Baumgardner wrote. “If both of those receivers are gone (as they are here), Torrence would be the best pure guard on the board. He had an outstanding year blocking in front of (Anthony) Richardson at Florida, and he’d be ready to roll for a team that doesn’t need to wait around anymore.”"
There’s no denying Torrerence would be a key addition for a struggling unit, but wide receiver feels like a bit more of a priority right now for Brian Daboll and Co. If the Giants end up giving Jones a 3-4 year deal worth more than $30 million a season, then they also need to invest in some play-making wideouts for him.
Kenny Golladay is on his way out of town, while it’s up in the air if Darius Slayton will return or not. Even if Slayton stays, he’s not a WR1, and neither is Isaiah Hodgins. The Giants desperately need a No. 1 option here for Jones. People are hoping for a Brandon Aiyuk or Tee Higgins trade, but bringing in a college superstar in the first round could be the avenue Schoen decides to drive down.
Anything can happen in the draft and NY might end up trading that first-rounder. If they don’t, it looks like Torrence will now be a player to watch for Big Blue nation.
