While a lot of people are focused on the 2023 NFL Draft for the NY Giants, don’t forget for a second that general manager Joe Schoen was a magician last April. In the fourth round, one of the major steals of the entire draft came in, with the G-Men selecting San Diego State tight end Daniel Bellinger.
Wait, who? That’s what a lot of people were thinking when the pick came in, but the rookie went on to impress during his debut campaign in East Rutherford despite missing plenty of action due to his serious eye injury suffered in Jacksonville.
So, just how good can Bellinger be for Big Blue? If you ask Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce: pretty damn good.
Chiefs TE Travis Kelce is a big fan of Daniel Bellinger
Kelce got a first-hand look at Bellinger’s potential last summer, as the Giants first-year player attended ‘Tight End University.’ This was of course great experience for Bellinger, as he was able to learn from Kelce, George Kittle and others.
Bellinger had his ups and downs, which is expected from any youngster during his rookie campaign. There were some unfortunate penalties, the fumble vs. the Vikings, and the eye injury, but that didn’t prevent No. 82 from earning the trust of Schoen, Brian Daboll and Daniel Jones.
In 2022, Bellinger caught 30 balls for 268 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for a score against the Packers in London. He’s known more for his blocking, but it was clear he can be relied upon to make some timely grabs as well. Fans would love to see him take a step forward in that department starting next fall.
As for Kelce, he was without question the best TE in the game this year and he’s got a second Super Bowl ring on his mind. Come Sunday, Kelce and the Chiefs will look to take down the Philadelphia Eagles, which a lot of Big Blue supporters are hoping to see. Thanks to his latest comments on Bellinger, Kelce likely has a lot of Giants fans ready to cheer him on as well.
