Oh how quickly things can change. Earlier this month, NY Giants quarterback Daniel Jones had a lot of people in his corner, hoping the soon-to-be fifth-year signal-caller would earn himself a handsome raise from the Giants for the 2023 campaign and beyond. A lot of us thought he’d be getting around $30-35 million for his long-term deal.
According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, however, Jones has switched agents and he is looking for around $45 million a season. What?!
This feels unreal, but if Jones indeed wants that kind of a payday from the Giants, then he should get himself ready to be placed on the franchise tag, which would result in him taking home $32.4 million next season. With all of that said, Jones has angered a lot of people, with them taking their frustrations out on Twitter.
NY Giants fans are furious with Daniel Jones and a lot of people want him gone
From the moment Florio dropped his report, Twitter has been going crazy. Jones went from having a lot of people backing him to get paid, to those same folks being disgusted with his behavior. This is rough to see:
While Jones did post a strong year in 2022, helping the Giants get back to the playoffs for the first time since 2016, there’s just no reason for him to get $45 million a year. At the end of the day, he tossed for 3,205 yards and 15 touchdowns.
We won’t forget about his +700 rushing yards and seven more scores, but come on, $45 million? What makes things tough for the Giants is that if they place Jones on the franchise tag, it would result in a $32.4 million cap hit for 2023.
Jones would be hurting himself, as the Giants wouldn’t be able to bring him in a star wide receiver and needed help for the offensive line. You can see why folks are so frustrated with him. Jones has gone from Danny Dimes to Danny Nickels overnight.
4 RBs the NY Giants should stay away from in free agency
The Giants will be in the running back market this spring regardless of if they re-sign Saquon Barkley, and there are certain backs they should be avoiding.
