Oh how quickly things can change. Earlier this month, NY Giants quarterback Daniel Jones had a lot of people in his corner, hoping the soon-to-be fifth-year signal-caller would earn himself a handsome raise from the Giants for the 2023 campaign and beyond. A lot of us thought he’d be getting around $30-35 million for his long-term deal.
According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, however, Jones has switched agents and he is looking for around $45 million a season. What?!
This feels unreal, but if Jones indeed wants that kind of a payday from the Giants, then he should get himself ready to be placed on the franchise tag, which would result in him taking home $32.4 million next season. With all of that said, Jones has angered a lot of people, with them taking their frustrations out on Twitter.
NY Giants fans are furious with Daniel Jones and a lot of people want him gone
From the moment Florio dropped his report, Twitter has been going crazy. Jones went from having a lot of people backing him to get paid, to those same folks being disgusted with his behavior. This is rough to see:

There is no way this is possible? Let this dude walk. No one will offer this. He will come back for much lower than the NY Giants are offering now. There isn't a single team who will pay him nearly as much. Giants would be in a better position by taking Hendon Hooker late 1st…

I hope the @Giants don't give in. He's not worth it. This season was his ceiling. NYG should let him go, re-sign Barkley, then find/draft a QB.

If the Giants sign Daniel Jones for 40M+ a year and let Saquon walk. I’m not sure if I can stay a fan. That’s just horrible management.

If Daniel Jones really wants or thinks he deserves that much money then let his ass walk

I’m all got overpaying players to win(especially QBs) but do not give Daniel jones a couple mill less then guys like herb and burrow will get. Let that loser walk😭 https://t.co/8JDFoPHYXY

.... For that price we can let him walk.... If Daniel Jones choose to be greedy and take all of that money he will have as many wins as he had and his rookie season... No extra money to sign any free agents and to improve the team

Daniel Jones wants LAMAR money???

Absolutely no way he’s getting that. If he’s gonna demand that much I’d straight up let him walk.
While Jones did post a strong year in 2022, helping the Giants get back to the playoffs for the first time since 2016, there’s just no reason for him to get $45 million a year. At the end of the day, he tossed for 3,205 yards and 15 touchdowns.
We won’t forget about his +700 rushing yards and seven more scores, but come on, $45 million? What makes things tough for the Giants is that if they place Jones on the franchise tag, it would result in a $32.4 million cap hit for 2023.
Jones would be hurting himself, as the Giants wouldn’t be able to bring him in a star wide receiver and needed help for the offensive line. You can see why folks are so frustrated with him. Jones has gone from Danny Dimes to Danny Nickels overnight.

4 RBs the NY Giants should stay away from in free agency
The Giants will be in the running back market this spring regardless of if they re-sign Saquon Barkley, and there are certain backs they should be avoiding.
