3. Placing Daniel Jones on the franchise tag would result in a $32.4 million cap hit

On one side of things, placing Jones on the franchise tag would result in the Giants paying him $32.4 million next season, much less than what he apparently wants. However, things aren’t that simple. That same number would go towards the Giants cap hit for 2023, which would be a nightmare for Schoen.

After going 9-7-1 this past campaign, and booking a trip to the postseason, there’s a lot of excitement surrounding this team, but there’s no question that some serious help is needed. There’s no No. 1 wide receiver for this team, so the hope is that Schoen could potentially make something happen in bringing in a stud for the offense.

What kind of wiggle room would Schoen have if $32.4 million was on the books for the cap for Jones? How do you think Leonard Williams would feel about this? With that kind of a number on in play, the Giants would have no choice but to release him or restructure his deal in a way that would result in a major pay cut.
