The Athletic’s first 2 NY Giants draft picks would be a major win for Joe Schoen if it happens

We are a little under two months from the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft arriving and it really can’t come sooner. NY Giants general manager Joe Schoen has 11 picks to work with, but everyone can’t wait to see what he ends up doing with his first-rounder. Will a star wideout be taken? How about a stud linebacker or a trade up for a quarterback?

You never know what might happen. What we do know is that the Giants also need some help for the interior offensive line. That’s why we are a big fan of The Athletic’s latest NFL Mock Draft, as they have the G-Men going with Florida offensive guard O’Cyrus Torrence with the No. 26 overall pick.

Not only that, but Charlottle Carroll thinks that the Giants will be able to bring in Tennessee wide receiver Jalin Hyatt in the second round. Honestly, this would be a dream scenario for Schoen and Co.

Jalin Hyatt and O’Cyrus Torrence would be ideal additions for the NY Giants

Checking in at 6-5, 337 pounds, Torrence is a monster in the trenches and he’d be a great fit for this offensive line. While the edges are set with left tackle Andrew Thomas and right tackle Evan Neal, there is some serious help needed on the inside. That’s why Torrence joining Big Blue would be so exciting.

As for Hyatt, this kid can fly. The 6-0, 175 pounder put up some impressive stats for the Tennessee Volunteers this past season, catching 67 balls for 1,267 yards and 15 touchdowns. Several mock drafts have Hyatt going in the first round, but others have him falling to the second round as well.

In a perfect world, Hyatt would fall down to the No. 57 overall pick when the Giants would be up in the second round. That’d be a fantastic new toy for quarterback Daniel Jones to work with. Hyatt’s speed and head-turning speed really makes him stand out when he’s on the field.

Obviously, the plans mentioned above could be ruined if either Torrence or Hyatt is wiped off the board before it’s the Giants’ turn to send in their pick. However, an offensive guard and electric wide receiver must be at the top of Schoen’s list of areas to focus on in the draft. If these two players head to East Rutherford, the NY faithful would take it in a second.
