5 NY Giants players who will not be missed next season
3. WR Richie James
Despite having the best year of his career last season, we’re quite confident that Richie James isn’t, and shouldn’t come back to New York for a few reasons. While he could have some use in a limited role, the Giants already have a few players with his skillset that would be a better option to play.
Last season with New York, James caught 57 passes for 569 yards and four touchdowns. While on paper these numbers are not the worst, James had far too many crucial mistakes to warrant giving him a big role in 2023.
Whether it be his two muffed punts that cost the Giants a potential win against Seattle, or his 3rd-and-5 drop on a crucial drive against the Vikings in Week 16, James had his fair share of game-costing moments on his own. Fans were furious with him on multiple occasions in 2022.
Entering next year with Isaiah Hodgins and Wan’Dale Robinson, alongside potentially bringing back one of Sterling Shepard or Darius Slayton, and the likely odds of Schoen drafting a receiver in the first three rounds, there simply won’t be much room for James on the roster. Could James serve a solid role for another team next season? Absolutely, but the Giants have far too many concerns to address to potentially deal with more disasters from a player of James’ caliber.
